Most common troubles for existing stairs is rot. Improper installation causes stairs to slowly degrade and become unsafe. We specialize in repairs and replacement of your old Stairs.

You can choose to keep your existing design (to satisfy Council) or if the stairs are not on the main road you can replace them with a new design.

Traditional timber construction – You will find these stair cases on nearly all Heritage design houses. Comprised all from timber, these designs bring a very beautiful and intricate look to the front of your house.

Steel based stairs –  a very Solid and modern construction, the treads sit on a galvanized steel frame to give a transparent non-cluttered look from the bottom.

Handrails –  All stairs require a handrail, and we have many designs to choose from. You can Stick to traditional slats or go for a hardwood handrail with stainless steel wire. You can find the options HERE

WHY CHOOSE TO REPLACE YOUR STAIRS?

You may have many reasons. The main of course is functionality. Most staircases that show signs of wear and tear and rot will need to be eventually replaced. Most repairs can be done in sections, but assessment will need to be made. If one section has shown signs of rot, then in most cases other sections have the same problem.

POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • WHY DO STAIRS ROT AWAY?

Stairs rot away due to moisture getting into the timber ends. Before installation, timber ends MUST be flood coated with paint to form a protective barrier and then installation can be commenced, that timber ends act like a sponge.

  • WILL I STILL HAVE PRIVACY WITH MY NEW HANDRAIL AND BALUSTRADE?

It all depends on your style goals. If you want privacy, then we recommend timber slats,  You can choose from vertical or horizontal slats. If you are after transparency to perhaps view your garden, then we recommend Stainless Steel wire or Pool fencing bordered by a Hardwood Handrail. There are many types to choose from, and we will go through design options with you.

  • CAN MY HANDRAIL BE OF A SHORTER HEIGHT?

No. Handrails cannot be any less than one-meter high measuring from the front of the first step. Your older house may still have a shorter balustrade, but this is now not part of the building code and is considered a safety issue.

  • HOW CAN I TELL IF MY STAIRS NEED FIXING OR REPAIR?

Inspect for rusted nuts and bolts, or for signs of bloated paint where timber comes together. You can also wobble your Handrail/Balustrade at all sections. A solid staircase should have very minimal movement whilst a rotten staircase will have movement.
